Short description of the organisation
AIT is Austria’s largest non-university research institute and takes a leading position in the Austrian innovation system in the areas of Energy, Mobility, Health & Environment as well as Safety & Security and a key role in Europe as the RTO focusing on the key infrastructure topics of the future. AIT’s experts involved in this assignment are working for the unit focusing on sustainable development of cities and regions in the Center for Energy. AIT’s unit focusing on sustainable development of cities and regions has built up an extensive network and project portfolio in recent years, as vice coordinator of the Joint Program Smart Cities of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) and active members in the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP SCC) as well as the SET plan Temporary working group 3.2 “Smart Cities and Communities”. In addition AIT’s Center for Energy is partner in a number of Smart City projects on a national, European and international level (e.g. TRANSFORM, SCIS, CITYKEYS, Smarter Together, RUGGEDISED etc.).
Key Staff in URBAN-EU-CHINA
Hans-Martin NEUMANN – Coordinator of the research group on Urban and Regional Energy Strategies at the AIT, Energy Department in Vienna. He holds a degree in Urban and Regional Planning (TU Berlin, 2001) and is an experienced researcher and project manager. Hans-Martin is involved in the H2020 project CITYKEYS (GA no 646440) and other Smart Cities projects in the EU and in Asia, e.g. concept development of the first Sino-Austrian Eco-Business Park in Nantong, China. He is also actively involved in the Sherpa Group of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP SCC) and the working group of the SET Plan Integrated Road Map. Catrin HAIDER is working for the AIT´s Center for Energy since August 2013. She is a certified project management associate (IPMA Level D) and holds a degree in spatial planning from the Technical University of Vienna. Since September 2016, Catrin is taking a master course on integrated urban development at the university of applied sciences Technikum Wien. She is involved in the acquisition and execution of projects (e.g. as a project team member for the Smart Cities Information System) as well as the management of research networks up to the active engagement in European policy initiatives. She has gained substantial knowledge on European RDI policies in the field of sustainable city development through her work as leader of the Secretariat for the EERA Joint Programme on Smart Cities.
