News for Eurocities  Nov 2017

In September and October 2017 the Shenzhen Urban Planning & Design Institute sent two delegations to the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland.

The main purpose was to exchange experience with European colleagues on following themes:

  • public facilities and public space’s planning and design,
  • mixed use land development,
  • innovation business parks’ planning
  • urban renewal – harbour & vacant industrial area redevelopment
  • social housing development policy
  • characteristic small town development

The delegations were well received by the municipalities of Almere Amsterdam, and The Hague in the Netherlands. They listened carefully the presentations on above topics given by the experts/urban planners from the Municipal urban planning departments. Afterwards, they discussed and exchanged with Dutch colleagues. They also visited many related projects and developing areas in these cities.

Shenzhen delegation visited the ministry of Urban Planning and Housing in Hamburg in order to know the newest urban renewal projects in the city at this moment.  They also participated in the international conference “Green mobility” in Mannheim Germany to share the experience of sustainable traffic planning with European colleagues.

Furthermore, they traveled to Zurich in Switzerland to learn more development of characteristic small town, which is a hot issue in China.

The training and the study visits broadened the view of Chinese urban planners and architects, and increased their opportunities of cooperation with European organizations. They also gave European colleagues some insight on new development in China.
