European Chamber’s Vice President Addresses at the High-level International Forum on Sustainable Urban Development (21 July 2017)

European Chamber Vice President Massimo Bagnasco presented at the High-level International Forum on Sustainable Urban Development in Chengdu, organised by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, the China Centre for Urban Development (CCUD) of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), and the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government.

Mr. Bagnasco emphasised that EU-China trade and investment ties create employment, drive growth and generate prosperity for both sides. He explained that the European Chamber has been encouraged by President Xi’s recent speeches, which promoted economic globalisation and put forward China’s intention to create an open environment for international trade and investment. He expressed the Chamber’s belief that the success of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) will largely be predicated on open markets, balanced trade, transparency and reciprocity.

Mr. Bagnasco concluded by pledging continued commitment and cooperation from EU business to help develop innovative solutions for cities that are eco-friendly, low-carbon, smart and people friendly.
